[00:00:00] Welcome back to Clear Signal. Today's episode is gonna be a complete right turn, and then we're gonna get back on the path. I was inspired to do this episode because I saw a post on Facebook that was speaking to the three awareness centers in Human Design. The three awareness centers in Human Design are the Ajna Center, which is... think of it as the mind, the processor; the Splenic Center, which has to do with the seat of intuition, fear, and health. I would put the latter in quotes, in my opinion. And the third one is the Emotion Center. We have an entire episode deep dive on the Emotion Center, one of the first episodes of the feed, link below.
I also did a deep dive on the Intuition Center as a contrast to the Ego Center, otherwise known as the Heart Center, otherwise known as the Will Center, and that is in episode on this notion of spiral versus circle. [00:01:00] I'll link that below. I think that's going to be a valuable episode for everyone to listen to right now because I think there are a lot of people who are looking at the next chapter of their life.
They're looking at the next stage of the journey professionally and personally, and some people might be feeling they haven't gone anywhere. They might be feeling that they've gone in a circle. What I want you to do is take a different perspective and take a step back. You've actually gone in a spiral, but in all the best ways.
You spiraled upwards. You just can't see it from your perspective. I saw a post on Substack today Where it was a giraffe painting a woman with a giant hat. I actually reposted it, and his painting is a picture of a big red circle because that's what he can see. He can see the top of her head, right?
Perspective is everything. Spatial perspective, perspective from other people and bouncing ideas off of others, listening to different kinds of voices and podcasts. [00:02:00] I bring such a different lens to this space because of my background in engineering and 25 years in business and having founded companies not in the coaching space and coming into this in my 40s, I have a very different perspective on how to use these tools than maybe somebody else.
So perspective is really important, and perspective is really hard to get from other people. Perspective is really hard to get from ourselves because we can't be our own mirror. I was recently interviewed for a talk for NCGR Boston. That's an international astrology organization.
I am the Boston chapter's featured speaker for September, and that interview is linked in the show notes. It's on my YouTube channel. Talked a little bit about my journey, talked a little bit about the work that I'm doing and some of the systems I'm putting together, and I said in that we can't be our own mirror, and I firmly believe that, and that's why perspective is so important. Sometimes perspective comes from others, and sometimes perspective [00:03:00] comes from spatially zooming out, and sometimes perspective comes from time, and there's no shortage for that. I believe the spiral circle is a prime example of that because time can't be rushed.
You need to have the reps, the years, the wisdom, the time to see how far you've come, where you've gotten stuck, et cetera. So I was thinking about the Human Design centers. I've moved away from how I use Human Design in my work. It's way more of an MRI and surgical tool.
I'm not a coach, so I'm not focused on people's deconditioning journey. But when we get influenced and get off the path, which is what we talk about a little bit in Clear Signal, you gotta look at why are you getting off the path. So I was thinking about the awareness centers, and I have an undefined splenic center, and I have an undefined root center. I also have an [00:04:00] episode on the root center, which I'll link below. And I would say my undefined root center has been one of my biggest arch nemesis is in life because I struggle with time management, I struggle with pressure, I struggle with prioritization, and that's gotten worse as I've gotten into perimenopause because even though our science is well behind, that executive function kinda goes in the toilet around this time. So even if you're not someone who struggles with ADHD or any kind of learning challenge or behavioral challenge in that way, prioritization becomes difficult in this chapter of life. And the research on that is horribly pathetic, so we know very little about it, but I can speak for that, and that has been mentioned other places.
Also, the pace of life, the distractions from life, all of it adds to that. And I was thinking about this because I'm trying to make rules around taking care of myself in the morning in terms of going to the gym, going to yoga, certain routines that are non-negotiables. Every entrepreneur struggles with this. I've been [00:05:00] negotiating with myself, and negotiation never works. Usually, rules work, and every time I bend the rules, it gets me in trouble.
I was thinking about this, and why do I bend the rules? Why do I say, "Okay, I'll do it in an hour. I'll do it in two hours"? And the reason is 'cause I've gotta get something done.
There is a deadline. There is a email I've gotta send. There's something that was urgent for that day I didn't do, I should've done the day before, but it's gotta be done now, and it is a spiral and not in a good way. That's a circle when you're going round and round. You look at the same behavior, and we're like, "I really haven't improved in this at all," right?
I was thinking about that, and I was thinking about that from this juxtaposition of, I think, splenic center, which is health- I have it undefined. I have the root center undefined. So the lack of definition in the root center contributes to the splenic center issues. Now, I don't have any health problems, and that's why I said in quotes earlier because I find that kind of a weak argument [00:06:00] But it was the inspiration for this episode, the reason I say that is because you cannot cookie cutter this stuff. You can't say, "Okay, well, I have an undefined heart, so I'm this. I have an undefined head, we have this." We love the Instagram memes that do this. It's your mix and match. It's your entire holographic entity. Like I said in the season three intro, if you're not looking at the forest through the trees, do the details even matter?
And this is a prime example of that. I'll give you an example. I am very sensitive to chemicals and prescriptions and all kinds of stuff, and that is classic undefined spleen. But I am willing to speak up about it. I will exit the facility. I will leave the room. I will open windows. When I had a office space, the cleaning women would come, and the space was so toxic, it was ridiculous. Thankfully, I was in an old building where you could open the windows, and if the landlord had a rule like you can't open the windows, I would've been out because it was horrible. Usually, I would go take a walk down the street.
It [00:07:00] was really bad. And we recently had the 25th anniversary of September 11th, which actually comes up in a future episode for completely different reasons. I was downtown for that incident, and I lived in New York City, and I worked in New York City after that. And they wanted us to work in Midtown after that.
They had moved where we were working, which was downtown, to Midtown, and I could smell the smell, and I refused to work there. And long story short, I wasn't at that job much longer than that. Looking back, that probably saved me a lot of health problems because now we're seeing how people were affected by that, and people just blindly went along to get along, and I don't do that. Why? Because I have a defined heart center, I have a defined emotion center. Do you see how these work together?
So we've talked about the emotion center before, and we've talked about the heart center before. But where you have definition in your body graph as a general rule, you're a little bit more like, "This is me.
Take it or leave it." I mean, that could be my personality. But defined heart center [00:08:00] is you're seeking validation outside of yourself. You don't have boundaries. Again, nuance to everything. We're all on our own journey. But as a general rule, it relates to the money plane, and the emotion center relates to people pleasing or, "I'm gonna do this because it's gonna upset somebody else."
So if you have definition in those areas, it's not to say that we all operate the same. What it is is to say is you might be less willing to adjust your values, adjust your behavior, placate others out of a desire to be liked, out of a desire to fit in, out of a desire to not rub someone the wrong way, out of a desire to XYZ Because what is the heart center?
The heart center is your innate value, your inherent worth. If you have inherent worth in yourself, that comes first. That includes your body, that includes time management, that includes your opinion, that includes your money, that includes boundaries, and that is the least likely center to be defined [00:09:00] in society.
It's 25%. Marketing fuels off of that Psychology fuels off of that, brands fuel off of that, influencer culture fuels off of that, mob culture fuels off of that, LinkedIn fuels off of that, accolades fuel off of that, certifications programs fuel off of that. Everything fuels off of that. That is a linchpin of society. This podcast is not meant to be a societal message, but you have to understand the environment you're navigating in and the soup that you're swimming in when you're making decisions, and you have to understand how are you affected by that soup. I'm gonna be affected very differently than you, and I'm also affected in my own way somebody else who has an undefined splenic center but has a completely defined root might be better at managing their own schedule and managing their own time than I am. So I know where I'm weak, and I take care [00:10:00] to address those weaknesses, or at the very least, be aware of those weaknesses. That's the first step of the journey, and that's how I use human design in a, in quotes, personal development way. I don't do that kind of work. But it is part of the greater narrative of you navigating forth In business, in life, in decisions and choice points, which is what this podcast is about at some level, and understanding yourself is part of the process little bit of foundational conversation that probably should have been season two, but we're gonna allow it, and then we're gonna get back on the track next episode, talk a little bit more about marketing, and then we'll officially kick off season three in the fall with a bunch of great guest episodes, case studies, conversations, collaborations. I'm looking forward to it. I hope you are, too. I'll see you then.
