What's the one fixed point you could build every offer, every decision, every pivot around — the one that doesn't change when AI, your industry, or your ideal client does?
Is your niche the same as your target market? Is your "unique value proposition" actually unique, or just the thing everyone in your industry says? And why does every strategy you try keep missing?
What if the confusion is the product being sold to you?
In this episode of Clear Signal, we pull apart niche, UVP, and target market — three things the online world treats as one — and asks the question underneath all of it: what if you're not designed to create value the way you've been told you should?
Why does "targeting high-performing women" mean nothing? Why does traditional positioning fall apart the second you remember you're not a shampoo bottle?
Clear Signal is a business podcast on positioning, branding, strategic marketing and decision making for founders, entrepreneurs, and change agents. @iamsunitakumar uses frequency based tools to locate your innate unique value proposition — the bedrock positioning your brand is built on. Topics include: niche vs. target market, unique value proposition (UVP), positioning strategy, personal branding, inflection points, category creation, business astrology for entrepreneurs, Human Design in business, marketing for entrepreneurs, consultants, and founders, feeling trapped in a niche, feeling boxed in by a niche.

Welcome to Clear Signal. Today is a brief episode as a bit of a clarification and also a bit of a seasonal break state. This episode is dropping at the end of March. And I anticipate us returning back to the podcast at the end of April. Might be sooner than that, but that is what feels right for me. And so I wanted to just name that. And we're going to do something a bit unusual, which is we will wrap season two and then roll into season three relatively immediately, which is not really how you do seasons in podcasting. But there are a lot of rules in podcasting. There are a lot of rules in life in general that, you know, I don't follow. It goes back to an episode I did uh last summer of What Game Are You Playing? The Diary of a CEO episode goes back to this notion of invisible rules and so much more. One of the reasons that I'm taking a step back is I have other projects I need to focus on, and also because I want to build the foundation for this podcast the right way. In the circuitry episode, I had alluded to the fact that beta would be May. End of beta would be May. I don't know if that's beginning of May or end of May. I also said that in an episode I just dropped with an interview. I've been very upfront about that. This podcast kind of launched in the way that I kind of see it having launched around Memorial Day of 2024. So, things I want to do on the back end, things I want to do for my other commitments, and a lot of other things. The podcast is shifting in direction, and so now I need to really look at the content we have and decide what of it is really going to be the focus moving forward. And that can't be done when the conveyor belt is still running. Or at least I'm choosing not to do it when the conveyor belt is still running. Life is full of invisible rules, and you decide the rules you want to follow. An episode I promised you guys, but that is the gist of it. One of the most downloaded episodes of recent is the episode I did about the rules of life are made up. I have my hypothesis on that. I have another platform, The Dark Matter Show, which is at this time not necessarily business focused. And so I alluded to that episode. And so there's been a spike in downloads for that episode because I don't think you have to be a business owner or own a business to appreciate the message of that. I will link that in the show notes. That was from last summer. It was around the time we wrapped season one. Or it's that this notion of people are questioning. I would like to think it's a bit of both. A lot of people are questioning the rules they followed, didn't get them where they wanted to go, and they're kind of questioning what is going on. They don't have the words for it. They don't have the astrological language for it, which I've shared with you. And if you're on my other platform, you know what's up because I've shared it with you for four years. Four years. Um, and that platform is shifting as well. So changes in the air. I don't think you need me to tell you that. Changes in the air in terms of identity, changes in the air in terms of direction people are going in and what their work focus is and what they want to focus their time on, and all that. And so one of the things that I've recently done is go on Substack. I am Sunita Kumar Everywhere Now, which is the places I'm active on. And so that's where you can find me. I'll link it below. And I'm testing out that platform. I'm testing it out. I'm testing out the vibe. I'm testing out the time commitment. I'm testing out a lot of things because that is a platform that has exploded in the last year and they're adding a lot of bells and whistles. So if you were listening to someone who doesn't know what they're doing, which is most people in the marketing, they're gonna say it's a blogging platform, which is incorrect. It is now a multimedia platform. They have live streams, podcasting, notes, which are kind of similar, I guess, to threads or retweets or whatever the modern term for that would be, posts. Um, it's definitely an interesting space. And I've not spent enough time on there to ever claim I'm a Substack expert. I'm not much of a writer. I used to be a huge writer, but now that I podcast, it's like at some point you kind of have to decide how much energy is being expended and where it's being expended. And, you know, you can create AI generated written stuff from your words. It's not AI generated, it's just curated from what I already said. These are my words. I don't have a script. AI is not generating any of this if it's not obvious. I do most of this on the fly, which I think you can feel. So uh that's interesting. And I'm trying that out. And I was thinking about all the different platforms I've tried out in my journey on this project since it started in 2022. And it really ties back to something I said, which was a very popular episode, uh, which was the fuck around and find out episode, entrepreneurship. Now, I took some liberty with that because, you know, it was a title. That's what you do. But, you know, I talked a lot about how entrepreneurship is trying stuff out, how entrepreneurship is fucking around and finding out, and I also equated that to the three line, the three line in human design. And the three line is a very common line to have, whether or not you have it on your top line, you have it on your bottom line of your profile, or you're like me, who it's hidden to the world, but I have it as a majority of lines. So that's how I move through the world and that's how I learn. And I don't want to make it sound like the three line is like you have to make mistakes all the time, because that is not an accurate statement. What it is, is that you have to try what's gonna work for you to find out if it's gonna work for you. No one's advice, no one's experience, no manual is gonna tell you. You have to figure it out yourself. And in doing it, you're gonna decide this is what I want to do, this is not what I want to do. That's gonna be true for life. It's also gonna be true for business. And so for me, I had to try out all the different platforms to decide. And it's taken a long time, and it's been, in quotes, a waste of time. Not for me, because when I go deep, I go deep. I'm a one-line. Five one is my profile. So I am testing out where do I feel energized, what is a good use of time, where do I think my ideal client is or my ideal audience? I'm getting more intentional with this business. It started out as a project, now it's a business. And where do I want to be spending my energy? And what is the best use and time of my energy? And who am I speaking to? And why am I speaking to them? And where are they? That is still a process. I anticipate that process will be ongoing for the next couple of months. But I just wanted to signal that because, like I said, we get a lot of noise in the space about what you should do and what you shouldn't do, and everyone's got to do what's best for them. That's that's the the the best thing that I can tell you. And especially if you're a three-line, you know, it's gonna be very obvious to you if you have a three-line in your profile and you're gonna own it. And you'll be like, this is me. And then if anybody knows human design, you're like, well, I'm a three-five. They'll be like, oh, I get it. Okay. And if they don't, you should run. But if for someone like me, they're gonna expect me to be a little bit more perfect and buttoned up. And I am buttoned up in the sense that as a five-one, when I deliver solutions, we're not fucking around and finding out during the solution. I would not get the testimonials I did, I would not get the results I did if that was the case. I'm not fucking around and finding out and figuring out what I'm talking about as I'm talking about it. That is not what a five-one does. But when it comes to living my life and how I learn and how I move through the world, and how I decide what is a fit or what's not a fit, what's a client who's not a client? What program did I like, what I didn't like? What was the format? Did I what did I need an intake form? Was the intake form comprehensive? Would I have done another session? Do they need an integration session? Do I want to do one-to-one? Am I doing a group work? All of these things have varied. I mean, I said in my last episode I just did that I had four businesses. There were actually five. And what's interesting is the fifth one comes up next episode on niche. Series of really powerful marketing episodes coming up, foundational, clarifying backwards to go forwards because some of them were episodes I recorded last summer that I redid to be of better quality, but also just to really speak to where we are now with the podcast versus where we were. Season one was fuck around and find out. I said it in the season one finale. Right now it's labeled uh episode 40. The numbers may change. Right now it's labeled Misfit Manifesto. I'll link below. I said, I'm building something different, I'm doing it my way, figuring it out. And that's what season one was a lot about. And I left in not perfect content. I left in stuff where the sound, I think there's one where like there's a bus behind me. Oh well. I mean, you know, it's all good. And so I have circled back to podcasting and I enjoy guest podcasting, and that seems like if you looked at my design and you understood my role in the world and you understood my astrological chart and kind of what I'm here to do in this stage of my journey, podcasting would make a lot of sense. Podcasting bigger platforms, that would make a lot of sense. So it's not exactly a disconnect with what I'm here to do, but it also feels an alignment. I said to the gentleman that I did the podcast with, you just heard, he said, What do you, you know, say to someone who's in burnout? I'm not a burnout coach. I don't work with people in burnout for the most part. Um, that is a little bit different. Sometimes people come to me when their team dynamics are not working. That would be a case of burnout, but it's not necessarily a solopreneur who's burned out. I wouldn't say that that's been any of my clients to date. That's a different use of human design. Um, it's all one the same, right? Human design, unfortunately, or fortunately, crosses business, personal development, manifestation, strategy, messaging, client attraction, influence, mindset. And so you can't really put it in a category. And so it's everything and none of it. It's also physical energy. Because can you really delineate it? Like let's say you are a sacral being and you've run out the sacral, and then you don't have time to go to the gym, or you don't have the energy to go to the gym. Well, you fix that, all of a sudden you go to the gym. Well, you're gonna fix your health. So it's, you know, there's no, we want to have silos, and people love silos. You're a mindset coach, you're a business coach, you are someone who helps people get healthy, you're someone who helps some with their relationships, and then there's people who try to be like, okay, I'm a money person, because that's that's a no-brainer, right? I'm a mindset coach, but I'm a money mindset coach. I'm a business coach, but I help people make more money because that's easy. That's an easy sell. So, you know, whatever. But human design is all that and none of that, and it's whatever you want it to be. And I use human design as business strategy, targeted business strategy, what I call the better wrench. I also use it a bit for influence, um, which is what I alluded to in mindset and deconditioning. I would not say I use it as much as other people who are human design coaches, and that's what they do. That is not a huge part of what work I do because that's often someone's healing journey. And uh a little bit different than the work that I do. I don't really operate as a coach. I'm more of a consultant, advisor. And it's the personal change that is happening with people when they say, I walked out of a session with you and I'm a completely different person. That is has to do with the work they're here to do in the world. It has to do with a next stage of their career, the business that they're truly meant to be running instead of the one they think they need to run. The next stage of their professional chapter, uh being more successful in the next stage of their professional chapter, going to the next level of the next stage of their professional chapter. I'm not working on their inner wounds necessarily. That's why I'm not a coach. And I in the future we talk about language and I talk about alchemy and strategy and optimization, and a coach is not a mentor, and we talk a lot about language because in about a month from now, actually, exactly a month from now, language will change. Language will start to change. And I already talked about that in an episode I dropped on 9-9. I will link that below. I talked about that on a YouTube video I did three years ago. But the frequency is the new marketing. I will drop that below. And three years after I did that YouTube video, I gave a talk to YouTubers. Excuse me, I gave a talk to podcasters, and that was a talk that I alluded to in the last episode to podcasters about your unique value proposition. That's on my YouTube channel. I'll link that below. I also gave a special offer for them about finding their unique recipe. That's gonna be good for you if you speak on podcasts, if you have a podcast, or you speak on stages. If you are one of those three categories and this is interesting to you, and you want to know what is my special sauce, I would run and not walk to get that offer because that was a special offer I gave to local podcasters. It's practically nothing, and it is um you have that forever. So if the payment link is still live, that is still live whenever you hear this. It's a notion page, it might take a minute to load. It's never gonna be like probably on my long-term website when I build that. But if it's live and you can pay for it, because it's an asynchronous offer, go for it. So that kind of is a nice, well-rounded place to stop, even though I didn't intend for this to be a conclusion episode. By the time you hear from me next, it'll probably be around the time those new energies start. So I didn't do that intentionally, but that feels right. We're in an in-between right now, and I'd rather allow the in-between to be in-between and then go to the next level. However, I wanted to let you know about that offer. I wanted to at least name it. I mean, you can kind of take about a month break from a podcast without announcing it, unless you're someone who really prides themselves on, you know, people pride themselves on I'm every Tuesday at 5 a.m. and that's great. I don't care about that stuff. I've never listened to or not listened to a podcast because of the the fact that they didn't skip a week. But, you know, do what makes sense for you. And so I thought about this because thinking about Substack. And I was thinking about a situation I had earlier this week where I recorded someone's guest interview and I used Zoom. I don't normally use Zoom, and there's a reason why I use Zoom, it doesn't matter. And so my input mic, I had to test the input volume for my input mic, and I didn't do that because the way that I normally record that wouldn't have been an issue. And so her sound is great, which is what you want, because I was interviewing her. My sound is lower, it's not bad, it's just lower. And so um I have to do some work on that and or have someone do some work on that. It's not the end of the world. And how would I know any different? So, what I've just illustrated for you is two uses of the three line in very, very succinct detail. One of them is what I just did with the mic. That's a life, that's business. That is where the world wants you to come out the gate perfect, and you make a mistake, and it's like, oh, I'm like, you're just learning. We're all learning. I don't even call that a mistake. I'm like, oh, it's a learning. In the future, I give an uh example because I have a lot of content I already recorded. I don't know what it's gonna hit the feed, but one of them I said, a mistake is like you borrow your friend's car. The gas tank says it's low. You're used to your car that you know you can get 20 miles on an empty tank or whatever, and you decide to push it, and you run out of gas. That's a mistake because you should have known better. You pushed it when you shouldn't have pushed it. Not understanding a tech detail, going on a platform and deciding it's not for you, testing out a platform to see if it's for you, testing out a medium to see if it's for you, testing out something if it's for you, testing out an offer if you like it, is that failure? Is that a mistake? I call it trying it out. I call it being human, I call it being a business owner in 2026. Language is important, and mindset is a lot about how we talk to ourselves and how we let other people talk to ourselves. So that is a great episode to end on. Unintentional, but kind of perfect. All the ways to work with me always in the show notes. I'll drink, I'll drop my substack below. Take a look, offer for the podcasting group below, YouTube video I mentioned below, other YouTube video I mentioned below, one is the talk, one is the video I did three years to the day before the talk, and I'll also drop in the uh episode I did last September that is going to be a prep for what's happening in about a month. And I'll see you in about that time.
